簡單清静原自本心/ 心識並不複雜

我們的心識,整體來說,根本完全不複雜。

它是非常簡單,非常清晰。在本質上,既沒有任何希望,也沒有恐懼,亦沒有其他任何東西。當我們觀察一個小孩,我們可以看到,他們眼中的世界是非常,非常的簡單,幾乎沒有我們的恐懼及希望。

Our mind, in general, is not complicated at all.

It is very simple, very clear. In its nature, there is neither any hope nor fear, nor anything else. When we observe a toddler, we can see that their way of viewing the same world that we view is very, very simple. There is almost none of our fears and hopes at that time.

Of course, as they grow up, they learn our complicated ways and make things more and more difficult. And now, when we try to capture something very simple, we are so used to relating to things in a very complicated way that we tell ourselves “It must be complicated!” Therefore, we believe that there must be something that we do not see. And so we use whichever means are available to find this mysterious thing. But since it is not complicated, we will not find it, because there was never anything complicated in the first place. And as a result of not finding anything complicated, we sort of confirm our doubts that there really must be something mysterious. Because we do not find anything, we make up something, a label, to apply on top of this doubt. This makes things very, very difficult.

簡單清静原自本心。

#Karmapa on Dealing With Difficult Thoughts

The source of simplicity comes from the heart.

Whenever we are in turmoil, confusion, all kinds of difficult thoughts and circumstances arise. When we calm ourselves down – whether we are Buddhists or not – in the end we can find a middle ground where we can see that applying the simple things in our lives helps and makes sense. In Buddhism, everything is about really making it simple, so that we can apply that simplicity in our everyday life.

A mind disturbed by the anxiety or confusion (Sanskrit: dukkha) of not realising its true nature is in a state of poverty. The mind possesses the potential to overcome anxiety or confusion – hence ‘true nature.’ Absolute prosperity is the state of cessation of the causes of anxiety or confusion (karma and klesha).

Karmapa on Practicing

You don’t have to have too many sets of practices, no matter how brilliant and how positive they sound. They are a bit like when we eat food – we can eat only one mouthful at a time, not more than that. Therefore, we also have to mindfully apply one practice at a time. By doing this constantly at a good rate, just like maintaining a balanced diet, it becomes meaningful, it helps to reduce anxiety, stress, and helps us to live a very exciting 21st century life.

We may accumulate all forms of unnecessary karmas, but this is not something that we cannot overcome. Of course, there are various means to overcome all these karmas. But the practice of compassion is something that we can apply very easily and develop easily too, without much of an effort. And at the same time, compassion offers immense benefit in a very short period of time. Since we are all trying to follow the ways of Bodhisattvas, compassion should be our main practice.

佛陀把生命真正意義顯現於他的人生當中 – 將所有正面的榜樣傳揚出去。他的人生就是他的信息。如果大家對此有所體會丶認同,又或者至少在我們的生活當中能遵循和運用這些意義,那麼我相信佛陀會為此而感到歡喜。

Budddha’s main purpose lay in the way in which he lived his life – whatever positive examples he could pass on. His life was his message. If we truly appreciate this, and at least aim to follow and apply this purpose in our own lives, then I think this is something that he would have liked.

We are trying our best to follow the path. We feel the benefit of our practice, in terms of finding peace in our minds, finding clarity, focus and meaning in our lives. So because we feel the benefit of practice, we feel that it is also our responsibility as a human being, as a citizen of the world to share this knowledge. It was also the wish of the great Buddha to share his knowledge. Buddha said that it is our responsibility to share, not because someone told us to do it or it is our duty, but it is in our nature to share knowledge that is helpful for us.

We cannot change the course of other people’s karma, but we can be an example and bring inspiration. And by being a positive role model and by being a good example, then we can bring immense hope. And probably the best gift is the gift of offering hope. By giving hope then it really heals whatever illness or difficulty there might be.

Buddhist teachings are extremely difficult to preserve, mainly, as Buddha said, due to our emotions. Of course, the karma factor comes into play. Karma is a very strong force, a very powerful force that drives us to various limits. But by trying to understand the challenges of karma and the afflictive emotions that we face every day, we actually come to understand how beneficial this practice of compassion and wisdom is. The practice of compassion and wisdom is the antidote to the karma and afflictive emotions we face.

禪修時間要多久

We don’t have to exhaust ourselves with our meditation, with our practice. It is something that as practitioners we should be mindful of – that we practice until our mind is comfortable and take care not to exhaust the body, to take some short breaks in between, but then to continue practicing. In this way, it is much more fruitful. Later on, when you get very comfortable with the meditation and the practice, of course, you can extend but otherwise it is much better with short sessions.

我們的慈悲、奉獻精神不僅局限於朋友圈或家人。我們能走得更遠,能延伸到我們遇到的任何人,最終是所有眾生,不只是人類或動物,更超越至六道所有眾生和輪迴裡的整個宇宙。不管有多少眾生,無論有多近或多遠,我們的心識和慈悲可以平等的、不分區別的達到一切眾生。

Our compassion, our dedication is not only limited to a circle of close
friends or family. We can go far further and reach out to any individual we come across, meaning eventually all sentient beings, not just humans or animals but beyond that, to all sentient beings of the six different realms and of the entire universe of samsara. No matter how many sentient beings there are, our mind and compassion has the capacity to reach to all equally, without discrimination, no matter how near or far.

噶瑪巴-慈悲的利益

They have seen it, they have experienced it, they have realised it.

修持佛法必須恆常不斷。所以,我們必需祈願能有修習佛法機會。不可以說若干量的修持便是足夠,因為它是沒有限制或邊際也沒有最後階段。佛法修持必須繼續,也因此我們要不斷心生奉獻、尊敬、和菩提心。

菩提心的意義是為了利益所有眾生而生起仁慈與體諒目的或動機。

The activity of Buddha dharma must go on always. And so we should allpray that we may always have opportunities to practice.There is no way of saying that a certain amount of practice is enough because there is no limit or boundary or final stage. The activity must go on. And it is for this very reason that we continuously generate devotion, generate respect, generate Bodhichitta.

The purpose of Bodhichitta is to generate a very kind and understanding intention or motivation for the benefit of all sentient beings

Inner Wealth is our mind, our consciousness. I believe that this mind is like a wish-fulfilling jewel. If you know how to utilise this mind, it can produce the most beneficial effects. The best way to utilise and develop this mind is to absorb knowledge, and the most important kind of knowledge is the one that makes us a kind person, a decent person, a person worthy of respect.

Since the quality of compassion is inherent, we don’t have to look anywhere else to find it. Wherever there is a consciousness, there is a seed of compassion. It is the same for wisdom. Wherever there is a consciousness, there is a seed of wisdom, too. Compassion is inseparable from wisdom.

面對困難

#Karmapa on facing difficulties

The difficulties that we face right now, from a Bodhisattva’s perspective, are what is known as ‘great teachers,’ like wish-fulfilling jewels, because they help us to grow and develop. They are ‘wish-fulfilling challenges,’ ‘wish-fulfilling teachers.’ All of the obstacles that we face, health-wise; mental development-wise; or concerning our earning; our livelihood; well, basically any difficulties, challenges or obstacles concerning day-to-day life – all of it, if we can take it the right way, can really, really help us to grow.

當見證人類可以如何據破壞力,我們感到很難過。在這個時候,特別重要的要記住,我們也能夠有偉大的勇氣和慈悲。在這個不幸的日子,我向受害者、肇事者和所有那些直接或間接受傷害者祈禱。

It is very sad to witness how destructive we human beings can be. At this time, it is particularly important to remember that we are also capable of great courage and compassion. On this tragic day, I offer my prayers to the victims, the perpetrators, and all those directly and indirectly harmed.

我們需要找到一種方法來利用這一刻來發展覺知和理解,這樣我們就可以活在沒有恐懼的生活中。我們需要找到一種方法來使用這一刻站起來面對恐懼和恐慌,而不是屈服於它。我們需要找到一種方法來利用這一刻來培養慈悲心,並向他人表明,這件事是缺乏覺知、智慧和慈悲,而表現為情緒。這是我們需要站起來面對的真正的事情。

We need to find a way to use this moment to stand up to fear and panic, and not to succumb to it.  We need to find a way to use this moment to develop compassion, and to show others that it is the lack of awareness, wisdom and compassion, manifesting as emotions, that is the real thing that we need to stand up to.

我祈禱,我們都會找到一種方法來利用這個時刻用慈愛來回應,抱著希望站起來,並記住,人類也能夠有偉大的勇氣和慈悲。我想請求所有直接和間接受這一悲劇影響的人加入這一願望。

I pray that we all find a way to use this moment to respond with loving kindness, to stand up with hope in our hearts, and remember that human beings are also capable of great courage and compassion. 謹慎行事,有了覺知,以便每一次在我們慣常表達執著和各種情緒的地方,我們反而表達出慈悲和智慧。如果我們能夠這樣做,那麼我們就可充分利用我們存在中的環境。

Tread with caution, with awareness, so that at every turn where normally we might express attachment and various kinds of emotions, we instead express compassion and wisdom. If we are able to do that, then we are making the best use of the environment that we are born with.

菩提心 Bodhicitta

我認為我們首先要真正用功去理解慈悲。這唯有靠真正據德上師的支持才能達到。真正據德上師對慈悲有直接經驗。在這種情況下,即使途中呈現的挑戰,我們也應當下努力成就這點。

I think the first stage for us is to truly put all of our efforts into understanding the meaning of compassion and loving kindness, and this can only happen with the support of authentic teachers, those who also have the direct experience of these phenomena. So in this case, and even though it may present challenges on the way, now is the time we must put all of our efforts into accomplishing this part.
